A Sense of Place: Intro to Working Thick & Creating Depth with Kiln-Fired Glass

During this 5-day workshop, students will create several kiln-formed landscapes that evokes space, depth, and emotional connection to a place.

Create a kiln-formed landscape that evokes space, depth, and emotional connection to a place. Learn new techniques for creating effects and components through layering and fusing glass. Working either abstractly or representationally, students will experiment with different glass elements (glass powders, frits, stringers, enamels), and various unconventional tools to create shading, texture, and other design elements that become encapsulated within and on the surface of a piece. After working on samples, transfer your new skills to create a multi-layered thick landscape.

As glass plays with the light, refracts, changes, and reflects it in countless ways, the onlooker sees the glass object anew every time it is viewed. It is exciting and challenging to create a piece using this method. All levels are welcome.
