While I was demonstrating during the Southern Highland Craft Guilds July Craft Fair, I was approached by a woman who has admired my work for awhile. She was thinking about buying 5 individual Seasonal Tree Panels and then trying to figure out how to hang them herself in her front door sidelight window. She came to me to discuss what kind of options that were possible without the hanging system being to visible.
I decided that it was best to create a fused clear background glass panel to fit the opening which had some bas relief tree branches carved into the clear panel. Once the clear background panel was fused as one sheet (it is 63" long X 7.5" wide), I placed thin branches cut out of 1/16" fiberpaper onto full piece of fiberpaper. The clear glass was placed on top of the fiber branch design in the kiln. The Seasonal Tree Panels (winter, spring dogwood, summer, golden fall and crimson fall) were then spaced evenly along the length of the clear base glass panel. The landscapes were fired at a tack fuse temperature to the clear base glass. This temperature also allowed for the clear base glass to take on the tree branch bas relief design during the same firing.
Intallation went smoothly and the piece fit like a glove into the opening. Another very happy client.
